Cubigo Partners with Zoom to Connect Seniors and Families
SAN FRANCISCO Cubigo - a digital platform for senior living communities - announces an integration with Zoom to keep families connected and residents engaged during the coronavirus pandemic. The platform is the first to launch such an integration, and the update was made available to its 35,000+ global users on its April 29th product release. This new integration not only facilitates video conferencing between residents and their families outside of the community, but also offers an option for programing directors to host virtual activities to fight loneliness. The HIPAA-compliant video conference tool has also paved the way for future expansion into the budding field of telehealth.
Cubigo CEO Geert Houben commented: “More than ever we need to be creative and innovative in how technology could help and support the processes and the connectivity. Technology is definitely not the solution to solve everything, but if used well it can be a great help.” With most senior communities on lockdown across the globe, daily activity calendars have been minimized, staff members are using their own smartphones to facilitate video calls between families, and there is an increased difficulty in connecting senior residents with care professionals. “By consistently keeping integration and convenience as the most important properties of the platform, it will be a seamless experience for residents to go from social connectivity to family to more healthcare-oriented conversations with caregivers”, Houben said.
After announcing in early April that it would be offering pro bono services for communities affected by the novel coronavirus, Cubigo has witnessed a significant amount of communities and organizations moving forward with implementation. Changing its course from traditionally in-person training and implementation, Cubigo now is getting communities trained 100 percent remotely to adhere to the current social distance guidelines. Cubigo’s website (www.cubigo.com) states that new clients can be completely operational in this “Cubigo Essentials” environment within 24 hours.
The cloud-based platform has proven to be a vital resource for senior communities throughout the crisis. Charlotte, NC based Southminster is a retirement community that launched Cubigo at the beginning of February—a week before going into proactive lockdown, and currently has nearly 400 active users (residents, families, and staff). Arnoldo Marquez, Southminster’s Director of IT commented, “User adoption has been a true testament to the ease of use of Cubigo. I continue to hear from residents how happy they are with the new system and how thankful they are to have [Cubigo] ahead of the pandemic. The social aspect of the platform has allowed residents to lower their sense of isolation by staying informed of changes in our community, interact with each other, and staying active with various activities we can share with them virtually. In times like this, where most may feel disconnected, Cubigo provides our residents with a sense of connectedness."
Privately held Cubigo is the first fully-integrated senior living platform to focus on engagement, staff efficiency, and maintaining communication in a single environment. Founded in 2011, it has clients in the US, Canada, and across Europe. Their nearly 40 employees operate out of offices in San Francisco, Boston, Toronto, and Hasselt, Belgium.
